Name: Jayne Cobb

Physical Appearance: “His face says ‘thug’. His face don’t lie.” 6’4”, very muscular and physically imposing, with close-cropped dark hair and circle beard along with visible stubble on his jaw. He has at least one tattoo, a red dragon with a yin-yang symbol and the letters “MA” on his upper left arm. He tends to wear heavy combat boots with army pants and tight, faded logo T-shirts, accessorized with a battered leather wristband and wide black ammo belt, and is rarely seen without at least a couple of knives and/or guns on his person.
Education: Little to none. He reads and speaks the same combination of English and Chinese as the others, though his reading is a bit slow and his speech is crude and lowbrow.
Occupation: Mercenary/hired muscle aboard the transport Serenity
Significant Other: None. He prefers one-night stands and is quite fond of prostitutes. Some may suspect that he fantasizes about a night with Inara, but if this is the case, he’s sure’s hell not lettin’ on. He seems to prefer his ‘companions’ to be a little less… Companion-y.
Sexual Preference: Women. Any and all of them. (Excepting River, because she’s freaky and tends to try to carve him up for no apparent reason.)

Character Biography:

History: Jayne grew up with his mother Radiance, his father (a welder), and his younger brother Matty, on a Rim planet. There weren’t enough jobs to go around on their world, so as soon as he was old enough he went offworld looking for work and adventure, taking whatever would pay him best and occasionally sending money back to his family. He became a mercenary and quite a good one; his talent lies in being the muscle, not the brains of the operation. Though he doesn’t like being ordered around, he also doesn’t want the responsibility of being in charge, so he prefers to work under people he can respect. But he makes no secret of the fact that his real loyalty is to money, and that for the right price, he would betray anyone. That’s how he came to join the crew of Serenity; when he and his partners of the time turned on Mal and Zoe in mid-heist, Mal offered him a pay raise and his own room if he switched teams. He did so immediately. However, he’s been on Serenity for a long time despite the crew’s constant struggle to make enough money just to eat and fuel the ship, so it’s clear he does feel a certain loyalty to them – some more than others.

How Others Perceive Your Character: Not always so pleasant to be around, but a good guy to have on your side in a fight.

Beliefs, Convictions, Morals: Morals… ha ha hahahaha… oh… *wipes away tears of laughter* Seriously. Jayne has his own twisted moral code, probably impossible for anyone but him to understand. He’s absolutely loyal as long as someone’s not offering him a better deal.

Reason(s) for Escaping to Canada: Weren’t his idea. The readings on Serenity went all wonky suddenly, and when River sent Kaylee down to the engine room to see what was going on, something spiked down there. With Mal busy on the bridge with River, trying to make sense of those odd readings, the Captain sent Jayne running down to check on Kaylee, and between one step and the next he found himself in Canada.
